- search an open the site/program. In this case "Pete's genealogy tips"
- at the top of the page find the URL. It starts with https:
- highlight and copy the entire line.
- Find an open spot on your desktop and do a right-click.
- look at the pop-up and find "new".
- either left-click or just hover the pointer over "new" and look for the second item named "shortcut".
- left click on "shortcut" labeled "create a shortcut" and a box will pop up
- look for a box labeled "type the location of the item:" and paste the URL in that box.
- Click on next and you'll be directed to create a label for your shortcut.
- Finish and you're done. The shortcut can be moved anywhere you want on your desktop.
