DO YOU WANT A GUIDE FOR YOUR RESEARCH?

If you want to have a guide for your research, the Riverton FamilySearch Library has posted a tip about finding one.

Tip of the Week

Guided Research

FamilySearch has created many helps for finding information about our ancestors.  One such help is called Guided Research.  The purpose of the Guided Research pages is to provide a prioritized list of genealogy resources for birth, marriage, and death (BMD) records as evaluated by FamilySearch professionals for optimized research.

The collections must have significant coverage for the locality for it to be considered to be placed on the main Guided Research page for the locality.  The goal of the Guided Research pages and the databases selected for each locality is to have a 60% success rate when searched.  The following is a list of current localities FamilySearch has included as of today.  Others are expected to be added in the future.

● United States by State
● Canada by Province
● England
● Wales
● Scotland
● Ireland
● Denmark
● Netherlands
● Norway
● Sweden
● Finland
● Italy
● Mexico
● Costa Rica

To access these records
  • Log into FamilySearch www.familysearch.org (it is not necessary to Sign in).
  • Hover over “Search” and click “Research Wiki” in the drop-down list.
  • Click “Guided Research” on the left side near the middle of the page.
  • Use the (+ / -) to zoom in or out for a better view of the map.
  • Select a location in green where your ancestors lived to see what online records are available.
  • Click the “To see all Guided Research experiences click here” link.  Localities with available records will show as a link, i.e.  Ohio.
  • Click a Birth, Marriage, or Death link for the information you are interested in.

FamilySearch is continuing to add more localities to their Guided Research pages.
